Barteza

Teza passed into God's hands today.  She had been sick for a while and although we were doing all that we could, her age, arthritis and her illness made it too hard for her to continue.  This morning she was down and although we tried getting her up, she couldn't sustain the effort.  With a long consultation with Heidi and our veterinarian, the decision was made to let her go gracefully to God.

I can see her now Romping and Running, Bucking and Farting - Tail flagging (in the Arab style) - in the green fields of Heaven.

Teza enjoying a REALLY good  ROLL on a nice warm December day.

Update: February 2006

Teza recovered very well from both the Pigeon Fever and the colicking.  We've had no more incidents of either since then.  She's definitely been feeling good - I have noticed more times that she acts like a horse a lot younger then her age.

She is still poetry in motion when she moves.

UPDATE: Oct. 2005

It's been a busy year!  I'll get some new pics of her soon, I promise.  Teza had an over all good year - being retired from motherhood - she's enjoyed the leisurely life.  I've worked with her in the round pen a little - she did well.  When the price of gas went up we decided to let the horses do most of the grass mowing (and fertilizing) for us.  We moved Teza and Ayashe up to our small pasture.  That is when the "fun" began.  After a few weeks the pasture was getting a little scarce of grass and we were going to move them back to the big pasture when I noticed some lumps on her chest - I thought it might be something contagious so we kept them in the small pasture - not wanting to let the other horses get what ever it was.  So we started feeding hay - and on the day we got our first delivery of round bales - Teza colicked.  Luckily, Heidi, Rob and I were still chatting when we noticed her strange behavior and we caught it very early.  The vet came out, treated her, we walked her all night 'til we all collapsed.

She recovered nicely from the colic.

Also, while the vet was out, he suggested a diagnosis of "Pigeon Fever" for those lumps on her chest and mid line.  I treated these by keeping them clean, letting them drain, etc.  I was very lucky in that all the lumps drained by themselves and I didn't have to lance them (YUCK) .  Since this disease sometimes act like Strangles when treated too early with antibiotics I chose not to treat with antibiotics.  Either decision is iffy - always consult a vet.  She's also recovered from this as well.

Teza is still in the small pasture - but this time is in with our visiting horse - Shima.  They are getting along well.

She is the dam to both Witez IIs Ayashe and Shams Witansy

Check out this profile - I just love her Arabian face. (Pictures taken May 2004)

Okay, so maybe all the picture taking is a little BORING! (Picture taken 1/19/2004)

Here are some updated pictures of Teza. We're getting better acquainted. She and I have finally worked out the mechanics of catching her and brushing her. She's also found out that her new human isn't so bad after all.

Her feet have been trimmed and though we had to cross tie her, she did really well. I am working at this time to get her away from having to be cross tied for grooming and feet cleaning, by gradually loosening the tie ropes.

I have also found out that she likes to be massaged (but doesn't everyone?). I purchased a couple of small plastic massage tools and went to work with them one afternoon - you should have heard the sigh! And I think she almost fell asleep while I was doing it.

After much surfing and looking I have found a website that has Teza's pedigree on it!!!! Depending on how many generations you want you can get pictures of her ancestors too. Anyway, here is the link for the pedigree.

I fell so hard for Ayashe that when I heard that his mom was up for sale, I had to have her. I wrote Heidi the check the day the pics came in with her description and price.

It's now been a little over a month since Teza arrived (VERY LATE on Monday, November 17th). Because of her late arrival I didn't get a good look at her that night and it was going to be Wednesday before I'd be able to get back out to see her. I was so jealous of Heidi. But Heidi was great, she had pics waiting for me in my email box the next morning.

Though Teza's pic on the PMU site showed her to be a bit skinny, she was in good condition when she arrived. All she has really needed is a course of hoof trimming and a bunch of human contact.

She's pretty much a typical Arabian - she a bit high strung and picklish about some things, but with a lot of patience and work, she is coming around and I think she'll come the rest of the way as well. She is picky about her feet, we've had more then one discussion about hoof cleaning etiquette. But each time it gets better as she and I learn each others personalities.

Primarily Heidi and I have watched as she walks around but there have been a few times when she's feeling her oats, she trots, which is poetry in motion. But yesterday, she was really feeling good - she cantered around the pasture. I just had to stop and watch. I know Heidi was talking to me, but I couldn't listen - it was just BEAUTIFUL.

I haven't been able to ride her and since we don't even know if she'd been ridden before her PMU career, even if I never get to ride her, just having her and working on becoming her friend is so  worth it.

This picture was my first look at Ayashe's mom - I loved her immediately!!
